I remember watching IBM in the early 1990's. I worked for a research group that had an IBM contract on which I was the lead developer. It was kind of eerie to watch. IBM was rotten to the core, but they had so much momentum, it took literally years before the stock market finally gave up on them. In the end, IBM nearly died and certainly became a significantly different company.
Watching Microsoft today, has the same flavor. For the past few years, it has been clear that they are rotten to the core, and I cannot help but wonder when the stock market will wake up to the fact.
